Principle of EqualityEquality is a very important word in life. It means the state of people, 2 or more, can be group, being equal which can be determined in rank, ability or in religious terms, caste. Prejudice is the complete opposite. Prejudice it the feeling or attitude about a person or group of people, before having a personal experience with them. An example of this is when young people wear hoodies are generally assumed to be thugs or gangsters. Discrimination is similar to prejudice but it is much worse as it is the physical act of prejudice. This can be done by acting differently towards people because of their colour, race, gender or disability. An example of this is not giving someone a job because of their race, but in worse cases, genocide.
There are usually causes of prejudice and discrimination such as, fear; all Asians are terrorists, all blacks are thugs, scapegoating; a minority group is blamed for something for no apparent reason, media; a race or group could be portrayed badly in a film. These then lead to the effects. One of the most horrible effects because of scapegoating is genocide, which can be seen in the death of 6 million Jews who were massacred by the Nazis. An effect of fear is also horrible as people can be bullied or murdered because of fear of their race. An example of this occurred around a year ago, in. America. On August 5th 2012 in Wisconsin, an army war veteran named Wade Michael Page, stormed into a local Gurdwara and massacred 6 people with 10 other wounded. Then shot by the police, it was acknowledged that he did this out of fear of terrorism. American president, Barack Obama visited the scene with many other people of all religions to assure the families, but this massacre has affected people around the globe, and not just Sikhs. Fortunately, people in this country have no fear of going to the Gurdwara, or any other temple, because they know the law protects them.
